10 Insufferable Rom-Com Leads That Don't Deserve Love

7. Chris Brander - Just Friends

Love Actually Creepy
New Line Cinema

Chris Brander, despite being playing by one of the most charming and loveable men in the world (Ryan Reynolds, duh), is actually a pretty infuriating character. So he's a fat but kind high school student who has a major crush on his best friend Jamie. He finally gets the courage to write a note telling her how he feels about her, but she doesn't reciprocate his feelings. Bummer.

Fast forward to about ten years later, when he is a thin, handsome womanizer whose six pack abs can't disguise the massive chip on his shoulder. As soon as he gets the opportunity, he throws his handsomeness and success in Jamie's face, trying to make her feel so bad about what she let get away.

Furthermore, he perpetuates this notion of the Friend Zone, as though the only reason men should be friendly to women is so they'll sleep with them, and god forbid a woman not be attracted to one of her male friends, whose actions towards them seem to belie some sort of niceness for sex quid pro quo arrangement that women are always kept out of the loop on.
