When some townsfolk are captured by a dangerous tribe of Troglodytes, Bone Tomahawk starts life like any other Western adventure as it sees the local sheriff (Kurt Russell) and a small ragtag group embark on a rescue mission. The first half of this flick is a slow-burn adventure that follows the group’s struggle to survive as tensions bubble between them.

However, when the rescue party are ambushed and captured by the tribe themselves, this flick switches gears into a shocking and uncompromising horror affair. It’s at this point where Bone Tomahawk becomes the 1800s equivalent of The Hills Have Eyes, and viewers have the privilege of watching one of the grizzliest deaths in recent years – if they’re stomach can handle it, that is.

Not long after the group are imprisoned, they and viewers have the privilege of watching one of the missing’s unceremonious killings as he’s prepared to be the tribe’s next meal.

First stripped and scalped, the doomed man has a spike driven through his mouth before he's split in two. Even when viewers inevitably look away, the sound of his muffled cries of agony and each nauseating blow is enough to put audiences off their dinner.
