10 Intrusions From The Cthulhu Mythos Into Cinema

4. Call Of Cthulhu

Call Of Cthulu Until now most of these films have been adaptations or loose translations for the big screen. Call of Cthulhu differs in that it is almost a direct translation of the story to the screen. There are some changes but only if you really look for them. The other quality that makes this film stand out from many others, is the manner in which it was produced. The HP Lovecraft Historical Society chose to make this film as though it were an artefact of the 1920's; when the original story itself was published. Rather than being detrimental this adds to the movie's merit, particularly the nostalgic whimsy of certain prop pieces and special effects, also, the way in which mood is dictated almost exclusively by music. Normally fan movies are painfully self indulgent affairs, however the HPLHS treat their subject with the right amount of creative passion and reverence so as not to spoil their own work.

David is grateful not only for the opportunity WhatCulture! has given him but also for the tens of thousands of views that you have given him. Particularly, when he still considers his efforts as somewhat clumsy and amateurish. Like H.P. Lovecraft, David will probably never be happy with his own work. Still this doesn't stop him studying E-Prime, Game Theory, Tantra, Magic, Media Analysis & Criticism along with many other things outside of his top secret day to day job and writing for WhatCulture! All of this in a no doubt conceited effort to improve not only his writing but also himself as a person.
