10 Most Irritating Subplots In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

2. Hawkeye Being Possessed - The Avengers

Joss Whedon got so much so right with The Avengers, but there's one thing he didn't quite nail, and that's Hawkeye. Early on in the movie, he is enslaved by Loki, essentially becoming a personality-free cypher who does his bidding. It's only when he gets into a fight with Black Widow (and loses) that he's able to snap back to reality. While he gets to reflect on the men he's killed and have a tender discussion with Black Widow about the things they've done in their lives, this is just a fraction of his screen time, and Jeremy Renner himself even complained about Zombie Hawkeye not really being what he signed up for. Due to the general disdain for his treatment in the movie, Joss Whedon has promised that Hawkeye will have a more important, expanded role in Avengers: Age of Ultron, which should hopefully make the lamest part of an awesome movie a very distant memory.
