8. 3 Way Shooting - The Killing
In 1956 Stanley Kubrick wowed critics with his entry into the noir genre. Adopting a nonlinear chronology, one that Quentin Tarantino later cited as a major influence on his debut film Reservoir Dogs, The Killing tells the tale of a racetrack robbery with tragic consequences. When the robbers manage to make off with the cash it seems like they might get away with it until two other crooks get the bright idea to ambush then and rob them of their score. In an absolutely jaw-dropping turn of events nearly the entire cast is killed off in a split second when the warring parties decide to shoot it out in close quarters with shotguns. The moment is so stunning you can see its influence in films made decades later, especially the cinema of Quentin Tarantino.
