Come on, it's not that unlikely. There are a few comic book storylines where Lex Luthor forges a temporary alliance with the heroes of the DC Universe.

Jesse Eisenberg's big-brained baddie may have been responsible for summoning Steppenwolf in Batman v Superman, but once he realises the Apokoliptian's arrival spells certain doom for all of mankind, it's possible he will switch sides.

Here's the thing: neither Luthor nor Steppenwolf can be trusted, so the chances are one of them will betray the other, and when this happens, don't be surprised if Lex forms a short-lived alliance with the Justice League to serve his own agenda.

There is some precedent for this in the comic books. During the 2014 Justice League storyline Injustice League, Luthor claims a spot on the superhero team through petty threats and manipulation, but he has also fought shoulder to shoulder with the DC Universe's heroes on rare occasions to combat mutual threats.

Luthor's role in Justice League is unclear, but one thing is for certain, he won't stay locked up for long. He never does.

So, what could the Lexcorp chief bring to the table in the battle against Steppenwolf? Aside from genius-level intellect and near-infinite resources, he could don his Warsuit and get his hands dirty on the battlefield.

Given that Lex's famous robotic armour has never appeared on the big screen before, omitting it from Justice League would be a missed opportunity.
