10 Key Characters Created Specifically For Comic Book Movies
2. Selena (Supergirl)
While Supergirl is a well-established character - and was even when this movie was released in 1984 - and has fought against many villains, her own rogues gallery is very weak. Did anyone really want to see her going up against Gyronaut, Electric Man or Porgus in a movie, for example? The answer was probably "no" and so Selena was created. Selena made sense as a villain to Supegirl - she's a witch and Kryptonians are notoriously vulnerable to magic, but, sadly, she was awful. The movie was critically slaughtered, with Helen Slater's titular heroine the only good thing to come out of it. Faye Dunaway's Selena was received terribly and Dunaway was nominated for a Worst Actress award at that year's Razzies as a result.
