10 Killer Last Lines In Horror Movie History
4. "I Do Wish We Could Chat Longer, But I'm Having An Old Friend For Dinner."- The Silence Of The Lambs
These aren't, strictly speaking, the last words spoken in The Silence of the Lambs, but this is certainly the line the audience remembers as the credits roll.
Jonathan Demme’s serial killer thriller sees greenhorn FBI trainee Clarice Starling go up against not one but two cold-blooded murderers: Buffalo Bill and Hannibal Lecter.
But there is one very important difference between these two: Lecter, while clearly a stone-cold psychopath, is not without charm. That's why the audience is weirdly on his side at the end of the movie.
Having made his escape from police custody in one of the film's most shocking and stylish sequences, Lecter is at large and seeking revenge on Dr Frederick Chilton, the sleazy, incompetent director of the secure hospital where Lecter was previously incarcerated.
He is watching Chilton as he utters his final line, leaving us in no doubt as to the grisly fate that awaits the unfortunate doctor.
