Knocked Off - The Texas Chain Saw Massacre

Horror filmmaker Rob Zombie is best known for his attempt at rebooting the Halloween franchise. (A heavy emphasis on the word 'attempt'). But this wasn't the first time the singer-turned-director made a film based on an iconic franchise.

In 2003, Zombie made his directorial debut with House of 1000 Corpses. Since the story revolves around a young group of people who become the unwilling victims of a serial-killing family, it's self-evident the film was inspired by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. (Just to hammer this fact in even more, it stars Bill Moseley, who portrayed Chop-Top in Texas Chain Saw Massacre 2).

But since Zombie's film focuses a lot more on the dynamic of the deranged family, it doesn't feel like a carbon copy. It may have horrified critics at the time (even though that was the idea), but horrorphiles couldn't get enough of it. Because of its sick humour, grisly gore, and a whole carnival of kooky characters (especially Sid Haig's Captain Spaulding), House of 1000 Corpses managed to develop a massive cult following.
