8. Adam Kesher (Mulholland Drive)
In a film populated with crazies, narcissists, perverts, and a hobo with a horrifying complexion who lives behind a dumpster, Adam Kesher stood out, because he was mostly sane. But he also very, very smug. For me its very hard to nitpick about whats bad about Mulholland Drive, because its one of my favourite films of all time, but, Adam Kesher is the undoubtedly the weak spot in the ensemble, and Justin Theroux is always overshadowed by whoever hes playing off against. In contrast, whenever Laura Harring or Naomi Watts are on the screen, they are magnetic, either with their vulnerability in the first half of the film, or their repulsiveness in the second half. Of all the characters, Adam should deserve our pity the most, because he is snapped out of his delusions of power and fame a lot quicker and harsher than the other leads, and his only crime was loving Camilla. But hes such an unlikable hipster that he instead comes across as a brat who gets upset when his toys are taken away. He is, as the Cowboy succinctly put it, too busy bein a smart aleck to be thinkin.
