Simon West's inept Nicolas Cage-starring thriller is clearly trying to take a page out of the book of Liam Neeson's immensely popular Taken series, by essentially finding the first verb in the thesaurus and using it to similarly title their movie. Though Nicolas Cage is a bigger, more prolific star than Neeson, audiences didn't exactly take to this cynical attempt to capture the same glory, largely because the film's trailers otherwise made it clear that there was nothing here on the level of the original Taken's visceral appeal and grizzled enthusiasm from a lead actor playing against type. Despite being directed by the guy who made Con Air and starring Cage, the film was a massive box office bomb, costing $35 million to make and grossing just $304,318 in the US, before being pulled from cinemas entirely after two weeks. It seems that even the most casual of audiences could see through this transparent attempt to carbon copy a popular box office hit.
