10 Lazy Movie Sequels That Had The Same Plots As The Originals

4. Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)

speed2 What are the chances that the same person might find themselves in two extremely similar terrorist-based situations at some point, in which the only thing standing between life and death depends on the speed of the vehicle they happen to be a passenger on? In the world that the Speed movies take place, rather high, apparently. That's to say, Keanu Reeves chose not to reprise his role for the follow-up to what was a genuine '90s action classic - it's just Sandra Bullock climbs on board for Cruise Control. Speed 2's plot is tweaked just enough from the original plot to justify that, somewhere, it might have happened once: a cruise ship finds itself reprogrammed so that it's on a collision course for an oil tanker. That's a workable idea for a thriller movie, I suppose, and it beats the hell out of doing a follow-up about a bus, but the fact that Bullock's character is involved again puts a serious strain on the levels of implausibility. Ultimately, it's too ridiculous to even consider.
