10 Least Accurate Movie Portrayals Of Comic Book Characters Ever
5. Superman
Overall, Superman’s tenure in the DCEU wasn’t great. After a single solo film, Superman was promptly killed off in a bafflingly strange choice for the higher-ups to make, skipping all the character development for the hero.
In both Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, the Boy Scout's characterisation is warped from what was presented in the comics. The 2013 film suffers from both minor and major issues in its presentation of both Superman and Clark Kent. The mild-mannered journalist in the comics is a meek and humble character, with an incredibly strong moral compass. Unfortunately, Man of Steel seems to skip these identity features, ranging from Clark Kent stealing clothes, destroying someone’s car in an act of pettiness, to endangering an entire city’s population whilst he and General Zod inflict apocalyptic levels of damage to Metropolis in the film’s third act.
This poor characterisation is only worsened in the 2016's Dawn of Justice. Superman seems keen to adopt his status of a god, despite his supposed humility. Worse still, Supes, the man who values life over anything, has no qualm immediately leaving after Lex Luthor bombs a congressional hearing, killing countless people. The real Superman would not rest until all the survivors were saved, but this version of the Man of Steel simply flies off without helping at all.
