10 Least Accurate Movie Portrayals Of Comic Book Characters Ever

4. Lex Luthor

One of the many crimes of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice was the portrayal of Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg. Luthor has been the Man of Steel's arch nemesis since 1940, and is renowned for his incredible intelligence and his calm, collected evil.

Unfortunately, Eisenberg's Lex Luthor is entirely different to the villain in the comics. The 2016 film seems keen to strip Luthor of all of his commanding and intimidating presence and prowess, and instead turns the character into an eccentric, petty, rich kid who almost always shrinks away from conflict. Whilst this cowardly presentation does make sense when he's around Superman, as the hero most certainly could immediately vaporise him, it does not when Lex is trying to convince Senator June Finch to allow him to import Kryptonite.

Despite Lex Luthor being woefully inaccurate in the movie, there's a good reason for it. Speaking at the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2018 (via Deadline), Jesse Eisenberg revealed he had no interest in the source material and said, "Listen, I'm not a comic book fan. To me, it was not playing a role that I'd envisioned since childhood. To me, it was a chance to play this great character that this great writer wrote, and I loved doing that."
