There are many critics and horror film connoisseurs who love this film, and there is no doubt that it has its moments. One moment though that doesn't work as intended is the reveal of 'The Headless Corpse'. Occurring during the gruelling finale, the headless corpse represents the demonic entities that have become embedded in the Graham household.

After the beheading of his mother and sister Charlie and Annie in equally ghoulish manners, 16 year old Peter seemingly kills himself, only to be kept alive as the new cult leader. What follows Peter's apparent death is one of the most unintentionally hilarious moments in horror film history.

Levitating above Peter is the headless corpse of his mother, which makes its way inside the family's cubby house. While this is meant to be symbolic of the fate of the Grahams finally being sealed as the grand demonic plan comes to its closure, it instead resembles a scene from children fantasies from the 80s like Bedknobs + Broomsticks. This unintended comic moment kills any sense of the horror the corpse is meant to represent, instead making the audience ponder if the film wasn't the cinematic gem many lead us to believe.
