10 Lesser Known Comics That NEED To Be Movies

DC Comics

Affectionately known as Milestone's Spider-Man, Virgil Hawkins is an African-American teen who, after exposure to a mutagen gas, develops electromagnetic powers. Virgil uses these powers to become the superhero known as Static, or Static Shock, depending on your preference or what story you are reading.

He's one of the flagship characters of Milestone Comics, inspired by and designed to represent a modern Spider-Man, before Marvel and Brian Micheal Bendis would do this will Ultimate Spider-Man.

Milestone Comics was founded by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek T. Dingle to have a greater representation of minority heroes. The comic series focused on modern issues facing teens like Virgil, such as gang culture and school shootings.

You may recognise this character from his very popular cartoon series in the 00s, that was a part of the DC Animated Universe and saw the character interacting with the likes of Batman, both original and Beyond.

Despite this, the rights of the character are complicated. If you thought the movie rights for Spider-Man was confusing, wait till you research Static's.

This has caused issues for Static's recent runs in the comics. However, the movie and TV rights fall with Warner Brothers, which makes a Static Shock movie, fortunately, less complicated, and it is about time Virgil makes a return to pop culture with his big-screen debut.

Who knows, DC and Milestone could work something out and Static could be an exciting addition to the DCEU.
