Mudbound is the next movie from Pariah director Dee
Rees, and it looks as if it could be the next logical step for her in her
feature length career. In it, Garrett Hedlund and Jason Mitchell star alongside Carey
Mulligan as two soldiers who return home to rural Mississippi after World War II.
Their interracial friendship muddies the feelings between their two families; one who owns the farm on which the other works. Concerning itself with racism, the post war society and everything else that comes alongside living in the Mississippi delta, Mudbound has the look of a movie that is about to make a lot of noise, especially when it’s turn comes around at the awards table.
Dee Rees is a defiant name to keep a watch out for over the next few years and Mudbound will be a one of the major reasons why.
