7. I Love You, Philip Morris (2009)

Yes, this is the romantic comedy where Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor are gay lovers. While this movie is probably pretty well known, it is criminally under seen. Based on a true story, Carrey plays Steven Jay Russell, a con-man and scam artist who is in prison when he meets Philip Morris (Ewan McGregor). They fall in love and start one of the most unusual love stories. Russell really has a problem staying on right side of the law and is sent to prison. Yet, Russell breaks out again and again to be reunited with the love of his life. Carrey gets a lot of credit when he tones down his acting in films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. However this is one of the best showcases of the work that only he can do. He is funny, wild and a tad bit over the top; but yet it makes sense because of the character he is playing. It is worth watching simply for his performance. The bonus is that the story is insane, but amazingly true.
