10 Lesser Known Sci-Fi Movies That You Need To See
5. Colossal
Have you ever gotten so drunk that you create a giant rampaging monster on the other side of the world?
Anne Hathaway has.
The Oscar-winning actor stars in 2016's Colossal as Gloria, a struggling writer with a drinking problem. So just a regular writer then?
After her life takes a turn, Gloria discovers that her boozing and self-hating has manifested as a huge creature that lays waste to the South Korean capital of Seoul.
Movie monsters are usually the personification of some undesirable trait, but Colossal takes that idea and reduces it to its most basic premise. That's not to say it's shallow; it plays with the idea very well and is as heart-warming as it is darkly funny.
Obviously Hathaway puts in a great shift, but she's not the only big name on the cast list. Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, and Tim Blake Nelson also play their part in bringing this unique spin on a monster movie to life.
This film unfairly flopped at the box office, making back less than a third of its budget. Don't let that fool you though, Colossal is worth your time.
Also, if you don't watch it, Anne Hathaway will choose your city as her next target.
