10 Lesser Known Sci-Fi Movies That You Need To See
4. Strange Days
Kathryn Bigelow made history in 2009 when she became the first woman to win the Academy Award for Best Director.
However, in an alternative timeline, this major bomb sunk her career and her ex-husband James Cameron won that award instead.
Strange Days did not perform well at the box office, making just $8million on a $42milion budget. Most of that money presumably went on the cast, which featured Angela Bassett, Juliette Lewis, and Ralph Fiennes doing a spot-on American accent.
It's a shame that nobody saw Strange Days, because it's really quite good.
Fiennes plays a man who sells special tapes that allows a user to experience the thoughts and feelings of the one who made the recording. These tapes become integral to a murder case, which thrusts the dealer into a high-octane world of action.
It had a good plot, a great team behind it, and a stellar cast, so what went wrong? Maybe the concept was just too out there? Or maybe nobody could get over the fact that the main MacGuffins of this film are called "SQUIDS".
Hard to say, but none of this affects the quality of the actual film.
