It's a good thing this isn't a spoilery article, because trying to explain the plot of 2014's Predestination is utterly migraine-inducing.

It's a time travel story - usually a sign to turn and run - about a nameless agent played by Ethan Hawke. The agent works for an organisation that send people back in time to prevent crimes from happening.

Kinda like Looper and Minority Report, all mixed together with Back to the Future.

There are two main plotlines for this film; the agent's relentless pursuit of a serial bomber, and his quest to help a transgender man looking to right the mistakes of his past.

These two narratives interweave thanks to some good old-fashioned wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey stuff, eventually coming together in an extremely satisfying way that you won't see coming.

The film was a launching pad for Sarah Snook, best known for her role as Shiv Roy in Succession. As for Ethan Hawke, well it just confirmed that's really great.

If you like your time travel stories with a bit of a twist to them, then Predestination is right up your alley. And if you don't like it, just hop back in time and prevent yourself from doing so. It's that easy.
