10 Lessons The Live Action Avatar Series Could Learn From The 2010 Film

9. Pacing, Pacing

We're aware that the new series has more time to explore the lore than the film did, but it should still take care.

M. Night Shyamalan tried to squeeze the entire first film into a feature length film - and not even a long film at that, totaling at 103 minutes. This was the film's downfall as far as the narrative goes. There simply isn't enough time to care about the characters. All the emotional beats were swept aside for cringy exposition.

It could go the opposite way, though. To unashamedly refer to other mediums, This year's Final Fantasy 7 remake was arguably padded out to the extreme. The Hobbit films, too, had a tough time stretching the source material into three long films.

We can only hope that the new Avatar series gets the pacing right. The original series had around 20 episodes, each being 20 minutes long. Would the new series make that 10 45-minute episodes? It could work but, again, they need to be careful.
