10 Long-Awaited Film Adaptations Which Can't Get Off The Ground

1. Wonder Woman

Actress Gal Gadot has signed on to play Wonder Woman in a standalone film as well as Batman vs. Superman and a Justice League movie, but we've been burnt before. The likelihood of a Wonder Woman solo film is presumably going to diminish if either of those films fail to live up to expectations, but if there's any superhero who deserves her own film, it's Wonder Woman. The sordid history of the efforts to bring her to the big screen is extensive and filled with disappointments. The project had bounced around Hollywood for a decade or so before it was finally picked up in 2001 by Joel Silver, and IGN reported that Sandra Bullock was considered for the titular role. It didn't go anywhere, but Warner Bros. resurrected the adaptation once again with Joss Whedon in the director's chair. Whedon left in 2007, citing a series of disagreements with Warner Bros., and went on to write and direct the biggest superhero movie of all time for the competition. Good call, Warner Bros. Subsequently we were treated to the odd rumour and failed TV pilot, but it wasn't until Gadot was cast that Wonder Woman seemed possible again. It's still not a done deal, but we're in a better position than ever before, so come on, DC: make it happen.
