10 Long-Awaited Film Adaptations Which Can't Get Off The Ground

8. Neuromancer

Neuromancer is a seminal 1984 cyberpunk novel by William Gibson, which essentially inspired an entire sub-genre of science fiction. It follows a washed-up hacker for hire who's offered one more job, and is notable for its in-depth world-building and futuristic language. Ever used the word 'cyberspace'? You have William Gibson's Neuromancer to thank for that. The movie adaptation has been floating around for years. The 1988 video game was intended as a tie-in, but ended up as a curiosity with promotional material for a film that was never made. In 2007, the director Joseph Kahn was attached, but again the project disappeared back into the depths of development hell. Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice) was committed to an adaptation in 2010, and apparently the script is ready, but nothing's come of it. Again, nobody's removed it from IMDB, so take from that what you will.
