10 Long-Awaited Film Adaptations Which Can't Get Off The Ground

5. Rendezvous With Rama

Rendezvous with Rama is one of Arthur C. Clarke's best known works. It's about a group of astronauts who explore a giant spaceship which appears in Earth's solar system; in other words, it's a visual effects dream. Like The Bell Jar, Rendezvous with Rama has acquired a champion in Hollywood, and he's been fighting a battle to get an adaptation to a cinema near you since 2000. Yes, apparently Rendezvous with Rama: The Movie is Morgan Freeman's passion project. Freeman initially wanted to produce the film with his own company, Revelations Entertainment, and managed to get David Fincher on board to direct as early as 2001. Fincher is no longer attached and the project doesn't appear to be moving forward, but Freeman has reiterated whenever he's asked that the film will be made, and it's genuinely difficult to doubt him.
