10 Long-Awaited Film Adaptations Which Can't Get Off The Ground

4. The Dark Tower

It's guaranteed that any given week will see a Stephen King adaptation repeated on television. There are just so many of them, of varying quality, that it's hard for any self-respecting horror channel to resist. That's why it's so bizarre that King's epic Dark Tower series has yet to receive the Hollywood treatment, but it's not for want of trying. J.J. Abrams was attached to a nascent adaptation in 2007, but pulled out, leaving the project back at the drawing board. Ron Howard has since been at the helm, and very nearly began production twice, on a proposed joint film and television venture a few years ago and a Warner Bros. film version in 2013. As recently as January 2014, Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul mentioned in an interview with Ain't It Cool that Howard had approached him about a part in a film trilogy and potential television series, so it's not dead yet.
