7. Hawkeye Assembles - The Avengers
I'm still incredibly awed by how Joss Whedon managed to make a movie about so many already-established Marvel Cinematic Universe characters and still ensure that each and every one of them felt developed, true to themselves, and important. Well, expect for Hawkeye. I don't think Joss Whedon likes Hawkeye, because he really gave this character the short straw in
The Avengers, which is annoying given that this movie should've acted as a showcase for his talents. Instead, he's treated like a lesser Avenger - he's even made into a baddie at the beginning! Thing is, we were all super-excited about finally getting to see this character do something interesting, and it was almost as if other superheroes weren't all that bothered about him turning up. I don't know if the disappointment partly came down to Jeremy Renner's dull-ish performance, but I guess the guy didn't have all that much to work with. When I think of the Avengers, I think about the Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America and - gosh - even Black Widow before I remember that Hawkeye is part of the team. People even make fun of him now. Assimilation officially failed.
