For the longest time, it appeared that Natalie Portman's time as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe had come to a screeching halt. In the wake of reportedly not being impressed by Patty Jenkins being given the boot from Thor: The Dark World, Portman was said to have not enjoyed the direction her character was taken in that 2013 sequel.

A few years later she was quoted as claiming that she was "done" with the MCU as far as she could tell, so it was safe to assume that we'd perhaps seen the last of Jane Foster alongside her beloved Thor.

Then, after only being mentioned by name in Age of Ultron, Portman made a surprising comeback during the time travelling madness that was Endgame - six years on from her last showing as the astrophysicist.

Admittedly, her work in the film was stitched together from archived footage, though Portman was on hand to record a few additional lines for the flick. But this return did pave the way for a full-blown Jane comeback in the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder sequel, with the star now looking set to go full Mighty Thor.
