10 Lord Of The Rings Book Characters We're Thankful Were Left Out Of The Movies
4. Ghan-Buri-Ghan
In the Return of the King novel, Theoden and the Rohirrim army encounter the Druedain chieftain, Ghan-Buri-Ghan while travelling to Gondor. The wild man leads Theoden through a secret passage to avoid a horde of Orcs that lay ahead. To show his gratitude, Theodon vows to drive away the Orcs that have bothered Ghan's tribe once the One Ring is destroyed.
This scene may sound harmless but it was logical to cut it since Ghan is a pretty weird character to introduce in the eleventh hour.
You see, Ghan-Buri-Ghan isn't just some random man living in the woods. His people are a group of fat, stumpy, gnarled dwarves.
Although it isn't mentioned in the books, this race are usually portrayed in video games, trading cards, and other mediums with plant-like characteristics with vine-like hair and green skin. Introducing such an odd-looking character so late in the story would have come across as distracting and jarring.
Interestingly, the character was originally going to appear in the film. Even though Kiwi actor Wi Kuki Kaa was cast in the role, Ghan was ultimately omitted from the final screenplay.
