10 Maddening Horror Movie Plot Holes
3. It's All So Convenient... - Mindhunters
Mindhunters centres on a group of FBI trainee profilers who go to an island to take part in a training exercise, in which they are to catch a fictional serial killer. An And Then There Were None-style mystery soon unfolds as a real murderer starts picking them off in a series of ludicrous Rube-Goldberg machine-style traps.
The killer is one of the trainees, Lucas (Jonny Lee Miller), and he states that his behaviour-profiling skills meant he knew exactly what each of them were going to do and he therefore knew that they would set off each trap in exactly the right way. While this was an interesting idea and could've worked, the way it's done here is ludicrous.
For example, Christian Slater's character is the first victim. He presses a toy clock, which sets off a chain reaction that causes a helium canister to open and freeze him to death. No matter how good a profiler he is, there is no way Lucas could've known this character would definitely set off this reaction or remain standing in the path of the canister.
