10 Maddening Horror Movie Plot Holes
2. How Could Marie Have Been The Killer? - High Tension
For much of its run-time, High Tension is a perfectly decent horror film with some incredible gore effects and refined directing from French horror maestro Alexandre Aja, but then it drops an unbelievably awful plot twist that breaks the entire movie.
Throughout High Tension, protagonist Marie is apparently trying to save her best friend, Alex, from a depraved truck driver serial killer who has already killed Alex's parents. Once Marie does kill the murderer, it is revealed that Marie, who has a crush on Alex and wants her to herself, was the killer all along and the truck driver was just part of her split personality. Wait, what?!
There is no way Marie could've been the killer. We see her and the 'killer' in different places many times throughout the film and the truck we see the 'killer' driving was evidently Marie's, but where did she get it from? When Alex and Marie arrived at the house there was no truck nearby and Marie didn't have a car at all, since Alex drove her to the farm.
This one is pretty much the ultimate movie-breaking plot twist and it deserves to be remembered as, if not the single worst plot twist in film history, then certainly near the top of the list.
