8. Cosmic Heroes Vs The Cancerverse (The Thanos Imperative)

The Thanos Imperative was a great story that saw large groups of characters from different universes battling it out in a conflict of cosmic proportions.

The story revolved around €œThe Fault€, which was a rift in space-time that had been formed at the end of the €œWar of Kings€ arc. Beyond the Fault lies the universe known as the Cancerverse €“ a universe where death itself is extinct and life runs riot and plagues the place like a cancer.

Monstrous creatures emerge from the fault when it is opened, while the Guardians of the Galaxy are keeping watch over an imprisoned Thanos, and the creatures are revealed to be alternate versions of existing characters who are plagued by life in the Cancerverse.

One of the monstrous characters, Lord Mar Vell (an alternate version of Captain Marvel), is the avatar of life and aims to spread his plague of undeath around the multiverse. As the avatar of death, Thanos is his opposite and the only way to end this coming war is for one of the pair to defeat the other.

While the likes of the Silver Surfer would have to be excluded, the movie could bring together the likes of Quasar, Nova, Gladiator and Beta Ray Bill (who could maybe be replaced by Thor to link in with the Avengers movies) and it would be an interesting way to utilise Thanos after his inevitable defeat in the third Avengers movie.
