9. Interstellar - The Plot
If there's one thing you can bank on when it comes to a Chris Nolan project, it's that the lid will kept on as tightly as possible. The British director is notoriously stoic about letting any details out, which is quite badly at odds with his decision to cast Michael Caine in everything, since the actor seems to revel in releasing seemingly minor plot details. This time out, the acting legend has revealed that he will be playing the professor father of Cooper (lead actor Matthew McConaughey) in a role that has already drawn some comparisons to his turn in Inception. But that's not the big spoiler - because AICN were able to get their hands on an early draft of the Interstellar script, which hadn't been given Nolan's final treatment (presumably he's going to drag in his usual themes and ideas a bit more) and leaked some details before the studios told them to take it all down. Some details of the leak remain, thanks to CosmicBookNews - and they give some idea of the framework of the script: It will be set in the future after the global collapse of governments and economies, where food is scare, and NASA is no more, thanks to sins committed in the 20th Century. A rip in space and time opens (presumably the wormhole that has played a big part in most speculation, and is alluded to in the mysterious tagline) and it falls to what remains of NASA to explore it, and find hope and salvation for mankind. Obviously we'll be looking at something a lot more complex by the time the film is released, but those details are enough to get thoughts racing.
