6. Nick Fury Recruits Danvers For S.H.I.E.L.D.

In the comics, and likely in the film too, we first meet Carol Danvers when she's serving in the United States Air Force. Her proficiency in combat, intelligence gathering and flying distinguish her immediately and she's soon recruited by the C.I.A., where she then meets Colonel Nicholas J. Fury for the first time.

With Fury established as a S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent around this time thanks to The Winter Soldier, it would also make sense for the two to encounter each other under similar circumstances. In the film's case, the C.I.A. can be swapped for S.H.I.E.L.D. - a minor change that allows the story to divulge more of the organisation's past and, by extension, Nick's relationship with the now missing Captain.

It'll also serve a purpose in showcasing Danvers' skills prior to her assumption of the Captain Marvel mantle, and potentially even open up the door for other cameos alongside Clark Gregg's Phil Coulson, and potentially Cobie Smulders too.
