7. Kylo Ren's Path To The Dark Side

Kylo Ren turns to the melted mask of Darth Vader, his grandfather, to help keep him on track for turning to the dark side. With Princess Leia as a mother it€™s hard not to have a strong inclination toward the light. However, Snoke has tried desperately to pull Kylo Ren to the dark, which, deep down, Ren also seems to want. A complete surrender to the dark side can be a long process: Anakin Skywalker spends much time being courted by Palpatine before finally giving in to the dark side in Revenge of the Sith. Kylo Ren will have the same lengthy path to travel, though killing his father probably sped him on. The truth is that Han dies because Ren needs to be established as a bad guy who is capable of doing evil things, but he€™ll need to do even more to further entrench his evil destiny (if in fact that is the way he wants to go). That being the case, no characters are truly safe from his dark intentions. Luke would be the ultimate prize, though Kylo Ren would need to learn more control before he€™s ready for that. Leia would make an easier target. In the end Kylo Ren will need to decide which way he wants to turn. It€™s easy to imagine that Episode VIII will feature him going to the dark side, with Episode IX presenting him a chance for redemption. However, completely embracing the dark side with no hope of return will almost certainly spell his doom at the hands of Luke or Rey.
