10 Major Reveals From The Star Wars: The Force Awakens Novelisation

3. There Was A Very Different Final Battle

Those of you who watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens on an IMAX screen no doubt noticed that far in the distance on the snowy planet that housed the Starkiller Base were what looked like upgraded AT-AT walkers. However, the movie never really showed any action on the ground, and instead made the understandable decision to focus on the battle in the skies above the planet. The novelisation however features a scene in which Rey and Finn hijack a First Order snowspeeder in order to reach the oscillator and plant the last set of bombs, something which leads to a fairly notable chase sequence as the Stormtroopers chase them down in a snowspeeder of their own. However, while that's a scene which didn't make it into the movie, the book also removes a key moment from The Force Awakens. It completely ditches the hero moment for Poe Dameron when he flies through the trench and into the base itself to blow it up from within as the Resistance instead perform a simple bombing run to destroy The First Order's weapon. It comes off as somewhat underwhelming as a result, and robs one of the movie's leads of his crowning achievement in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
