Back in 2017, James Gunn reportedly wanted to bring Nathan Fillion into the MCU as Simon Williams, the actor turned superhero known as Wonder Man. This would have been little more than a cameo, highlighted by several movie posters, but ultimately the role never materialized.
This leaves the position of Wonder Man open for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The superhero has been a member of both the Avengers and the West Coast Avengers in the comics, but has also enjoyed a career as a movie star.
No one could deny that The Rock could pull off a superhero, but balancing that with being a successful actor in Hollywood? Who better to bring this character to the screen than Dwyane Johnson, the man who has been the highest paid male actor in both 2019 and 2020?
Much like how Robert Downey Jr. essentially just had to be himself as Tony Stark, this could be similar for The Rock and Simon Williams.
