10 Massive Movie Franchises With No Interesting Characters

The Resident Evil series may be the highest-grossing video game franchise in history after raking in over $1.2bn at the box office despite producing precisely zero good movies, and proved so popular that there's already a reboot in the works, but even diehard fans can't argue with the fact that almost every character besides Milla Jovovich's Alice is there for window dressing and little else.

The star of the show herself doesn't even need to show much range in a series of standard run-and-gun actioners, which is a lucky coincidence because Jovovich fares much better in the set-pieces than she does trying to paint Alice as anything approaching a fully-formed or even halfway interesting protagonist.

We get stoic Brits like Jason Isaacs, Iain Glen, Colin Salmon and Jared Harris showing up for the paycheck, while handsome all-American types Ali Larter, Ashanti, Boris Kodjoe, Wentworth Miller and countless others turn up at various points to provide cheekbones, jawlines and not a great deal else.

I don't do social media, so like or follow me in person but please maintain a safe distance or the authorities will be notified. Don't snap me though, I'll probably break. I was once labelled a misogynist on this very site in a twenty paragraph-long rant for daring to speak ill of the Twilight franchise. I stand by what I said, it's crap.
