10 Massively Underrated Horror Movies
3. Slither
Long before James Gunn landed a big-money Marvel contract and scored critical and commercial success with Guardians of the Galaxy, he made a little-known sci-fi-horror called Slither, and it bombed.
As is the case with many films on this list, that says nothing about its watchability. With Slither, Gunn delivered a tongue-in-cheek pastiche of at least a dozen '80s horror films and turned so many stomachs in the process.
The film is set small American town in the wake of a meteor strike, an event that turns the place into a hell of parasitic alien worms and transforms one of its residents into a tentacled, slug-like monster.
Slither is essential B-movie stuff, paying effective homage to The Thing, The Blog, Shivers and Night of the Creeps. It celebrates everything that made these movies great, and has more than a few disgusting tricks of its own up its sleeve.
