The Doctor Who actor played the evil Malekith in Thor: The Dark World. Unfortunately, Malekith was one of the blandest, most uninspiring characters the MCU has ever produced, with Eccleston speaking out about his time working on the film.

At the New York Comic Con in 2019, Eccleston spoke about Thor: The Dark World, and how he didn't particularly enjoy the final cut of the film. According to Eccleston, "there was a lack of humour in the film, I felt." Eccleston also recalled the "miserable experience" he had, especially because of the make-up routine he had to endure. "I was in make-up for six, seven hours every day. They didn’t tell me that up front, so I wasn’t pleased about that."

Despite his apparent distaste for the making of the film, Eccleston doesn't seem to want to rule out returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Doctor Who actor enjoyed Thor: Ragnarok, describing it as "brilliantly written." Moreover, Eccelston stated that "if it was the guy who wrote the third, I'll do that," meaning that he may return to the MCU. Still, as it stands, Christopher Eccleston could have been put to much better use in the Marvel movie machine than what he had been.
