5. Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker

Back when it was confirmed that Baron Wolfgang von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) would appear in Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans quite understandably assumed that the top-level HYDRA operative from the comics would play a major part in the film.

As it turned out, von Strucker was wasted on a glorified cameo, briefly appearing in The Winter Soldier's aforementioned post-credits scene before being killed off-screen by Ultron in Age of Ultron's first act.

Given the supervillain's comic book lineage as a considerable foe for The Avengers, this felt like a bit of an insult to both fans of the comics and the character himself.

If Age of Ultron desperately needed a maniacal science-dabbling baddie, why not pick one of the many less-popular ones throughout Marvel's back catalogue, or just create a new one from scratch?

Von Strucker as a character deserved to stick around for longer, rather than simply serving as a prop to get the story in motion before being casually discarded.
