10 MCU Complaints That Make No Damn Sense

8. It's Not Diverse

The Argument

The MCU is populated by too many white male actors. Even the traditionally ethnically diverse characters - Mandarin, Iron Fist, The Ancient One... - have been whitewashed.

The Rebuttal

Okay, so previously this probably WAS the case. Only Rhodey really counted as a black character, while female characters were painfully under-represented (or were no more than narrative tokens).

BUT a lot has changed in the past couple of years.

We have Black Panther coming, which ostensibly has an entirely black cast and director, Captain Marvel will become the first female lead, Wasp is sharing top billing with Ant-Man and there are some pretty loud rumours of a Black Widow stand-alone coming. That's a damn sight more diverse than most other comic book movie slates.

And then there's the question of white-washing: Iron Fist was never anything other than a white New Yorker; Mandarin was a racist stereotype in the comics; and they've gender-swapped The Ancient One, which should make up the fact that they couldn't cast anyone from an entirely made up country.
