10 MCU Complaints That Make No Damn Sense

7. There Should Have Been A Black Widow Film Already

The Argument

With all this muscular machismo bursting out of the MCU, shouldn't there have been a Black Widow movie already? They're trampling a perfectly good character.

The Rebuttal

Up until Age Of Ultron, Black Widow had no backstory: she had "red in her ledger" and a vague hint of a murky past, but it wasn't substantial or fleshed out. She was presented instead as a fully formed character whose intrigue was peeled away as it became clear she wasn't quite the impenetrable bad-ass she initially looked. That was a far more interesting approach.

And whisper it, but Black Widow was a better supporting character than she was a lead in her own right. Because of her mystique, her interactions with other characters were more intriguing, allowing her to build a sort of anti-hero sidekick mythology. Approaching her backstory from that foundation is much better.

Incidentally, there almost was a Black Widow movie before the MCU, which probably wouldn't have been anything like what Marvel would have put out.
