10 MCU Heroes Who Started Out As Villains

Ever since debuting in the MCU over a decade ago, Loki has played just about every role there is to play, from villain to anti-hero to hero, and just about everything in between. All this came from wanting to escape the vast shadow cast by his older brother.

In fairness, it’s hard to imagine how you would react when you found out your entire life was a lie like Loki did, but he had already earned the moniker of God of mischief long before finding out the truth. This arguably just took him up a notch to the height of his evil, which was the Battle of New York.

Since then, he initially showed little remorse for his actions in The Dark World, but throughout the second and third Thor movies went on a journey of redemption, and ultimately realised his brother wasn’t his enemy. His final heroic act came as he sacrificed himself in an ill-advised attempt to rid the universe of Thanos.

Even going back to the 2012 version of Loki for the Disney+ series of the same name, the first big antagonist of the Avengers still managed a short redemption arc over six episodes, doing anything he could to save the multiverse from being plunged into the chaos of Kang the Conqueror.
