As the MCU's biggest and most bankable star, it's hard to imagine anybody except Robert Downey Jr. playing billionaire industrialist Tony Stark.

However, as Feige revealed during the AMAA, prior to the production of 2008's Iron Man there was a high chance of somebody else donning the now-iconic suit.

When asked about his biggest conflict with Disney, as well as discussing the issues with Captain America: The First Avenger's period setting, Feige also talked about their pushback on casting Robert Downey Jr. in the franchise's lead role.

Whilst this may now seem like a ludicrous position, given his well-documented legal issues and prior struggles with substance abuse, Disney's hesitance to sign him to a family-friendly multi-film franchise is understandable.

Thankfully for fans however, Disney would later relent and choose to give Downey Jr. a much needed chance. A decision which has clearly paid off given he has since gone on to become the highest-grossing box-office star of all-time.
