As the director of the MCU's first instalment, Jon Favreau is rarely given the credit he deserves for his role in making the franchise the box-office powerhouse it has since become.

However, despite his success, the decision to hire the then-relatively unknown Favreau to direct such an enormous project has always proved baffling to many MCU fans.

So, when asked about this decision, Feige admitted his longtime admiration for Favreau's work and even went as far as describing him as "one of the best storytellers on the planet".

He was especially keen to highlight his appreciation for Favreau's 2003 Christmas classic Elf, calling it "a stone cold classic".

Which means, with a little bit of mental gymnastics, Will Ferrell dressed as an elf and eating used chewing gum is directly responsible for the MCU's success.
