3. Silver Linings Playbook
The anti-romantic comedy that just so happens to also be a romantic comedy. The trailers for Silver Linings Playbook were very deceptive because they presented a movie that was a stereotypical story of boy meets girl yet the film that the trailers sold was much, much more than that. Like (500) Days of Summer a few years prior, Silver Linings Playbook presents a realistic story of love and loss that is captivating in its honesty. The film doesn't try to sugar coat anything or gloss over the details of its story which is why it should be remembered. It shows flawed characters that are just trying to get by and need a little help from each other. In a year that gave us so many horrid romantic movies (The Lucky One, What to Expect When You're Expecting and This Means War), it is such a relief to see a movie that represents the romantic comedy in a way this is not only innovative but enjoyable.
