10 Mexican Horror Movies Every Horror Fan Should Watch
1. Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017)
Tigers Are Not Afraid is a 2017 movie written and directed by Issa Lopez and starring the likes of Paola Lara and Juan Ramón López. The film went a huge way in revitalising interest in the Mexican community of horror movies, and revolves around a young girl named Estrella living in an urban city during the height of the Mexican Drug Wars.
The film gives one of the rawest and most gripping insights into what life is like in the middle of a war zone from the perspective of people who have actually lived and breathed it, and handles harrowing issues such as drugs, trafficking and trauma in a really fitting manner.
Tigers Are Not Afraid's fantastical elements are almost completely juxtaposed against the grittiness of its drug war setting and context, but they actually manage to couple together beautifully for a film that revolves around the perspective of an innocent child living in these surroundings.
The film currently holds a score of 76 out of 100 on Metacritic and a hefty 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with praise being spread evenly between the actor's portrayals and Lopez's realism.
