Some movies require a little bit of patience, and it's safe to say you'll struggle with this flick if you don't have any. But, for those out there who are willing to wait a bit, you'll find a scary experience like no other in this analogue horror film.

Skinamarink is an experimental movie that follows two children after they realise their father has gone missing, along with the doors and windows to their home. They are soon haunted by a mysterious force, leading to dark revelations.

This film doesn't give you anything conventional, as it's layered with long periods of pure inactivity. The deliberately snail-like pacing makes all the big scares even more cathartic because they are a dramatic change to the norm. This creates an atmosphere that makes the kids, and you, feel completely powerless against this entity.

Skinamarink also doesn't hold your hand through anything. You are forced to insert your own meaning into it if you want to understand the narrative, as it's a collection of terrifying moments packaged with a deliberately ambiguous plot.

This isn't the kind of film you see in the cinema with your friends; it's something you watch on your own on a stormy night while questioning your sanity.
