If you don't quite get what's happening in this film, don't worry, because you're in the 99%. This comes from the mind of Charlie Kaufman, so if you expect traditional storytelling and a conventional plot, you've come to the wrong place.

I'm Thinking of Ending Things follows a young woman meeting her boyfriend's parents for the first time, despite her intentions to end their relationship. This visit leads to an array of existential dread and odd occurrences.

The film takes surrealism to the max, as the focus is less on telling a cohesive narrative and instead more about exploring a bizarre and metaphoric structure. This allows the viewer to make sense of it themselves, injecting meaning when and where they can. Naturally, even the stoutest avant-garde cinema fans will still find themselves scratching their heads.

While I'm Thinking of Ending Things doesn't approach horror in an in-your-face way, it still emits a feeling of unease and fear thanks to lingering tension and an atmosphere of constant emotional flux.

It also bears mentioning that the performances are phenomenal. Jessie Buckley (hello again) and Jesse Plemons both do a stellar job in their roles, anchoring the movie's bizarre structure with relatable performances.
